맥락 변이 디자인
맥락 변이는 소통의 오류에 의해 맥락에서 벗어난 상태를 뜻하며, 이는 원활한 소통을 위한 교정이 필요한 대상으로 인식된다. 그러나 이 프로젝트는 다의적 해석을 가능케 하는 맥락 변이의 가치를 긍정적으로 인식하고, 이를 의도적으로 부여할 수 있는 워크숍을 수행한다. 워크숍에서 참여자는 워크숍 웹의 ‘제시어 선택’ 버튼을 눌러 무작위적으로 생성된 제시어를 세 가지 작성하고, 그중 한 가지를 키워드로 선택해서 이미지를 만든다. 참여자는 웹 하단에 제공된 텍스트를 참고해서 이미지에서 선택한 키워드가 쉽게 드러나지 않도록 모호성을 요구받고, 키워드로 선택한 제시어는 공개하지 않는다. 이미지와 제시어 목록은 다음 참여자에게 전달되고, 다음 참여자는 전달받은 일부의 정보만으로 키워드를 유추해서 이미지의 다음 상황을 가정한 이미지를 만든다. 그 이후의 참여자는 이전 참여자의 과정을 반복하며 릴레이를 이룬다. 모호성을 부여하는 조건에 의해 앞선 참여자는 본인의 키워드와 이미지의 맥락에서 벗어난 결과물을 유도하고, 이후의 참여자 또한 키워드를 유추하는 과정에서 재해석을 가미하며 맥락 변이의 재미를 놀이의 형태로 경험한다. 13회에 걸쳐 진행한 워크숍을 통해 41명의 참여자가 만든 123개의 결과물을 수집하고, 그 과정에서 나타나는 맥락 변이의 양상을 살펴봄으로써 예측불가능한 참신함이 나타나는 모호성의 미학을 탐구하고자 한다.
Context Morphosis Design
Context morphosis refers to a state where context deviates due to communication errors, recognized as a subject requiring correction for smooth communication. However, this project positively acknowledges the value of context morphosis that allows for polysemous interpretations and conducts workshops to deliberately bestow it. In the workshop, participants press the 'Generate Keywords' button on the workshop website to randomly generate three prompts, select one as a keyword, and create an image. Participants are required to demand ambiguity so that the chosen keyword does not easily reveal itself in the image, referring to the text provided at the bottom of the web to guide them, and do not disclose the chosen prompt as a keyword. Images and lists of prompts are then passed on to the next participant, who, with only partial information received, infers the keyword to imagine the next scenario in the image. Subsequent participants repeat this process, forming a relay. Due to the condition of ambiguity, preceding participants induce outcomes deviating from their own keywords and the context of the image, while subsequent participants also incorporate reinterpretation in inferring keywords, experiencing the fun of context morphosis as a form of play. Through thirteen workshops involving 41 participants, 123 outcomes were collected, aiming to explore the aesthetics of unpredictability and freshness arising from ambiguity by examining the patterns of context morphosis observed in the process.
